The Mad River Byway takes you along two of Vermont's most scenic roads, Routes 100 and 100B.  Along the way you'll find Middlesex Village (Route 2); Moretown (Route 100B); Waitsfield, Warren, Granville Gulf Reservation (Route 100); Fayston, and Buels Gore to the top of the Appalachian Gap (Route 17).

Classic New England

All the villages are key destinations along the corridor which has a rich history that is visible today in its churches, memorials, farms, architecture, recreation and community life. The byway is characterized by its classic New England landscape and architecture - mountain ridgelines, a winding river, hillside farms, and steepled villages. 

Outdoor Recreational Opportunities

Another key destination is the Mad River Path. (http://www.madriverpath.com) A network of public trails and greenways providing pleasant walking, running or bicycling experiences, highlights the beauty of the Valley while staying in close proximity to the Mad River where ever possible. Managed by the non-profit Mad River Path Association, the Path has been in the process of connecting the towns of Warren, Waitsfield, Fayston and Moretown for over twenty years.

Located in the region that includes the famous Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas, and the Green Mountain National Forest, the byway also intersects the Long Trail,Vermont's "footpath in the wilderness" the oldest long distance hiking trail in America. http://www.greenmountainclub.org/
